Submit a Housing Request Form from the Reservations page of our web site. The information you provide will help us to better assist you.

Step 2
Wait to receive a Confirmation by email. You should receive a reply within 48 hours of submitting a housing request. Due to the high volume of calls, we prefer that you do not call our office until you have received an email confirming your request.

Step 3
After you have received a Confirmation by email, should you still have unanswered questions that cannot be handled by email, then please contact our property manager by telephone.

Viewing the Property

How can I schedule an appointment to view the property?

Our website contains current photographs of Golden Hill Place. To see the interiors of specific apartments, please visit the Floor Plans & Photos page.

If you would like to view the property, an appointment may be scheduled with the Property Manager by telephone.

Do I need to be interviewed in person to be considered for a space at Newport Place?

Golden Hill Place only requires that you submit a Housing Request Form to provide information about you and your needs. No credit check is required.
Note: For couples and friends traveling together, each prospective resident must submit a separate Housing Request Form.

How close is Golden Hill Place to the Gaslamp District?

We are 14 blocks from the nightlife of the popular Gaslamp District. Just walk 15 minutes down Broadway or take a 5-minute bus or taxi ride.


How close is Golden Hill Place to the San Diego Bay?

We are 1 mile from the most popular San Diego Bay attractions. It is an easy ride on one of our bicycles. The streets are mostly flat; there are relaxing waterfront bike paths along the bay.


How close is Golden Hill Place to the nearest beach(es)?

The nearest beach is located on Coronado Island. You can get there in 15 minutes by car or 30 minutes by ferry & bicycle. The nearest "party surfing beach" is Mission Beach. You can get there in 20 minutes by car or 45 minutes by trolley & bus.


How close is Golden Hill Place to the downtown business and financial district?

Golden Hill Place is located on the boundary of the downtown business and financial district. We are within easy walking and biking distance to all areas of this district. The bus makes it even faster to get there.

How do I get to Golden Hill Place from the San Diego International Airport?

Hiring a taxi is the least expensive way to get from the airport to Newport Place. Be sure to print the map route located on our Directions page before you leave home.

At the airport, give the taxi driver the map route. Ask the driver to take you to 905 20th Street. Golden Hill Place is on the corner of 20th Street and E Street. Have the driver follow this exact route.


When I arrive by car, where do I park the car to unload my luggage?

Golden Hill Place is located in a residential neigbhorhood with plenty of free street parking. When you arrive to move in, you will likely find a parking space in front of the building.

Public Transportation

Is public transportation near Golden Hill Place?

Residents of Golden Hill Place can experience the best public transportation that San Diego has to offer. One block from your front door is a bus stop for the bus line that runs through downtown. Seven blocks away is a major hub for the San Diego transit system: the Smart Corner/City College Station (corner of 12th and C Streets). Two trolley lines and over a dozen city bus lines converge at this station. How much does it cost to take a bus or trolley?

Bus and trolley fares range start at $2.25 and depend on where in the city you want to go. For information of fares and monthly passes (student passes are also available), please visit San Diego Transit System - Bus, Trolley, Train website.


Where can I buy weekly or monthly San Diego trolley & bus passes?

Go to the "Transit Store" located at 102 Broadway on the corner of Broadway & First Avenue (19 blocks from Golden Hill Place). The telephone number is +1.619.234.1060. Other locations that sell transit passes are: the Check Cashin Place (5th& Broadway), Ralph's Supermarket (1st & G) and Longs Drugs (Horton Plaza). You may also purchase passes from the "eStore" on the San Diego Transit website: www.sdcommute.com.


Is it better to rent or buy a car?

To rent or buy a car depends on how long you will be in San Diego. To buy a reliable used car worthy of driving will cost at least $2,000 - $4,000 dollars. You could have trouble selling it when you want to leave town. Instead, you might want to consider renting a student rental car by the month. Rentals are about $450 per month with insurance.

Personal Security

Do the units and property have secure keyed locks?

Yes. The front and rear doors to all apartments have security deadbolt locks. All common areas and the backyard have resident-only keyed gate access. Upon moving in, you will be issued a complete set of keys.


Do the bedroom doors have secure keyed locks?

Yes. Your bedroom door can only be locked and unlocked by you. (And only by our staff with 24-hour notice or in case of an emergency.)


I might be walking a lot in the area, how safe is the neighborhood?

Golden Hill Place is located in an residential-urban setting. You should always keep personal safety in mind when walking through any city, especially if you are alone.

However, San Diego is a very friendly place with little street crime. The streets are well lighted. The central headquarters for the San Diego Police Department is only five blocks from Golden Hill Place.

Can you help me find somewhere else to live?

If you want to stay at Golden Hill Place but will be arriving one day or more before a bedroom is available, we can recommend several affordable hotels in the area.


Can you recommend a language school in San Diego?

There are many fine language schools, colleges and universities in San Diego - several of which are located near Newport Place. Many of these schools refer their students to Golden Hill Place. To find a list of quality local schools and internships go to our Preferred Educators page.


Is Golden Hill Place affiliated with a university or school?

No, not directly. Golden Hill Place is a privately owned and operated business that offers shared furnished housing.

What are Golden Hill Place's monthly rental rates?

Does my monthly rent cover all charges for staying at Golden Hill Place?

Rental rates are all-inclusive. Please review our Features page.

There is a one-time Rental Initiation Fee of $75 that each resident pays when he/she moves into Golden Hill Place. This fee is to cover the costs of staff assistance to get you moved into an apartment, including the assistance with lease documents.


What furnishings are included in the apartment rental?

How many residents can live in a 1-bedroom apartment?

Golden Hill Place limits two residents per apartment.


I do not know how long I will stay in San Diego. Can Golden Hill Place be flexible with my move-out date?

Golden Hill Place offers month-to-month rentals. You must commit to live at Golden Hill Place for a minimum of one month. This allows for both short-term and long-term residents. You can stay as long as you would like.

If you do not know your move-out date, your continued stay will be on a month-to-month basis. We only require that a 30-day advanced move-out notice be given to the Property Manager.

Utilities

Do I pay anything for the utilities (electricity, gas, water, cable TV, Internet)?

No. Your rent includes all of these utilities.

Note: During the cooler months of November through April, you have the option of using a space heater. If you chose to use a heter, a monthly Energy Surcharge of $35.00 will be added to your rent bill. Upon request, Golden Hill Place will provide you with an electric space heater.


Besides utilities, what else is directly included in my rent?

Your rent also includes housekeeping every two weeks. Golden Hill Place also replaces your light bulbs when they burn out.

Guests

Can I have friends and family stay in my apartment with me?

Golden Hill Place limits two residents per apartment and the number of guests a resident may have staying with them in their apartment to one guest at a time. Each guest may stay up to a maximum of 1 week with not more than 2 guests allowed within a 2-month period.

A $25.00 Guest Fee per guest (per visit) will be charged to you to pay for additional utility costs. Should you require an air-bed, one can be set up with bed and bath linens by Golden Hill Place staff for an additional fee of $25.00.

How many stories tall is Golden Hill Place?

Golden Hill Place is a 2-story building. Each unit has two entrances: one through an interior hallway and one from the outside from the shared deck or patio areas.


What size are the bedrooms?

Golden Hill Place offers one large bedroom in each apartment (approx 300 sf) Please refer to our Floor Plans & Photos web page.


How much closet space will I have?

Each bedroom has two wardrobes: one wardbrobe per person. The wardrobes provide hanging space, one shelf and 4 drawers.

In general, most residents at Golden Hill Place have traveled from afar or are staying in San Diego on a temporary basis. Therefore, we offer clothes storage with suitcase/backpack traveling in mind.

Kitchen

Do the kitchens have everything needed to cook?

Yes. All Golden Hill Place apartments have full kitchens. Each kitchen is equipped with a stove, oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee machine, toaster, blender, rice cooker, garbage disposal, pots and pans, cooking utensils, cutlery, dishes and glassware.

Bathrooms

Are the bathrooms shared?

There is one bathroom in each apartment. You share the bathroom only with the one roommate that lives in your apartment - unless you are renting the apartment solely by yourself.

Furnishings

Are Golden Hill Place's apartments furnished or unfurnished?

Golden Hill Place provides fully furnished, contemporary styled apartments. Each apartment includes: utilities, cable TV, stereo, unlimited wireless Internet access, and a full kitchen with appliances & utensils.


Does Golden Hill Place offer any unfurnished apartments?

No. We do not offer any unfurnished units.


Can you tell me more about the furnishings?

Can I move my own furniture into my apartment?

In general, you cannot move furniture into your apartment. The exceptions to this policy are: small plants, desktop computers, stereos and other small personal electronics.

Air Conditioning and Heating

Does Golden Hill Place have air conditioning?

No. Golden Hill Place does not have air conditioning. Instead, every room has a ceiling fan. This is standard practice for rental properties and private homes throughout coastal San Diego. Golden Hill Place is inside the Pacific Coastal zone where cool ocean breezes and a marine layer typically keep temperatures very compfortable at 60-75 degrees Farenheit. This also helps us to conserve energy and keep our rental rates affordable.


Does Golden Hill Place have heating?

Yes, during the coolest months of the year (November through April) residents have the option of using space heaters. Upon request, we will be distributed an electric space heater to your bedroom. There is a monthly $35.00 Energy Surcharge to use a heater.

Housekeeping and Laundry

Is there maid service?

Yes. Golden Hill Place provides bi-weekly (every other week) cleaning to all common areas (kitchen, living rooms and bathrooms). The cleaning of your bedroom is yours and your roommate's responsibility.

The maid cleans at Golden Hill Place on Fridays.


Is washing my linens (sheets, blankets, pillow and towels) included with the weekly housekeeping?

No. The washing of all of the linens provided to you by Golden Hill Place is not included with the weekly housekeeping. You are responsible for washing your own bed linens and towels.


Where can I do my laundry?

Golden Hill Place has one laundry room located in a small building in the back yard of the building. The entrance is on the ground level, off the brick patio area. There is one washing machine and two dryers. The machines are coin-operated and require multiple quarters ($0.25). Residents must supply their own laundry detergent.

Each apartment has an iron and ironing board, as well as clothes drying rack for personal items that need to be air-dried.


Can I to request have my bedroom and linens cleaned by the maid?

No. The maid working for Golden Hill Place is very busy and has a specific cleaning schedule to follow. You may hire your own cleaning professional to clean your bedroom.


Are there cleaning supplies that I can use?

Each apartment is supplied with an electric floor vacuum (that works great on wood floors), as well as a broom and dust pan. Other cleaning supplies (dish soap, multi-purpose cleaners, sponges and paper towels) are your responsibility.

Parking

Do you have parking?

No. Golden Hill Place does not offer parking. There is adequate parking on the streets surrounding the property.

Pets

Do you allow pets?

Sorry. No pets of any kind are allowed at Golden Hill Place. No cats, dogs, reptiles, rodents, birds, fish, or any other animals or insects are allowed in Golden Hill Place.

The only exception will be for residents who require the service of an assitive animal.

Mail

Do I have a private mailbox?

Each apartment has its own secure mail box and its own address. You and your roommate share the mail box and will each have a key to access it.
